MEET THE HOLMES & TURNER TEAM

Ernie moved to Bozeman and founded Holmes & Turner in 1972. Originally from Cleveland, OH, Ernie attended what is now Cleveland State University and received his Bachelor of Business Administration – Accounting. He aspired to success straight out of college, becoming partner at Main Lafrentz at age 25. Through his years in public accounting, Ernie has performed valuations of many types and sizes including acquisitions, sales, damages and settlements. He is Holmes & Turner’s tax expert and generously shares his knowledge with whoever inquires. He has experience with immeasurable types of tax matters ranging from individual returns to large corporate returns. Ernie is the backbone of this office, creating a lasting impression on each employee and client he encounters.

In his spare time, Ernie enjoys spending time with his family including his wife, Lorrie, his three children and grandchildren. He also enjoys ranching, watching horse races and traveling.

Shareholder

Originally from the Florida Panhandle, Mathew and his wife moved to Bozeman from Tallahassee, Florida in 2014. While in Tallahassee, Mathew earned a B.S. in Accounting and Finance from Florida State University. Shortly after graduating, Mathew served as a Senior auditor in the State Government Audits Division with the Florida Auditor General’s Office, focusing primarily on Federal awards, operational, and financial statement audits.

After joining the H&T team in 2014, Mathew developed an interest in individual and small business tax preparation and consulting. Mathew’s goal is to become a well-rounded CPA that is not bound by the label of a specific niche category. He has been a licensed CPA for over 6 years and became shareholder at Holmes and Turner in 2017.

While away from the office, Mathew and his wife Emily embrace everything Montana has to offer and spend a majority of their time exploring the Montana backcountry with their golden retriever Stella. 

Sandy is a native born Montanan from the small town of Deer Lodge. She attended the University of Montana where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting. She joined Holmes & Turner in 2012 shortly after relocating to Bozeman. Sandy has over 30 years of experience working for small and midsized Montana CPA firms. She took a break from public accounting and was the Controller for Glendive Medical Center for 5 years. These experiences provided her with a diverse skill set to share with clients and her fellow employees at Holmes & Turner. Sandy provides tax services for our clients including individuals and business entities. She enjoys public accounting, especially working at Holmes & Turner, because of the diversity and complexity in her work day.

Sandy’s husband, son and daughter are all MSU Bozeman Alumni. She supports the Bobcats by attending most home football games and many other university sponsored events. Sandy also enjoys biking, hiking and fishing in the Gallatin Valley and surrounding areas.

Sandy is a long time member of the MSCPA and AICPA.

Ryan was born and raised in Belgrade, MT. He decided to stay close to home and graduated from Montana State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Business Accoiunting in 2022. He continued his education and graduated from Montana State in 2023 with a Master's Degree in Professional Accountancy shortly before joining Holmes & Turner.

In his free time, Ryan enjoys golfing, hiking, biking, playing in the local pool league, and attending Bobcat football and basketball games.

Originally from the Mississippi Delta, Casey moved to Bozeman in 2022. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Mississippi in 2009. Casey prepares income tax returns for individuals and business entities. Casey looks forward to expanding his knowledge in public accounting. He is already impressed with the many outdoor activities that Montana has to offer.

Managing Shareholder

If you have a tax question, Duane has an answer. He received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with emphasis in accounting from MSU-Billings and his Master of Taxation from the University of Denver. Duane joined Holmes and Turner in 2003, bringing the experience he gained from a mid-sized firm in Kansas. He became partner in 2009 and is an invaluable asset to Holmes and Turner. He has the knowledge and research base to tackle any tax matter. 

When he sneaks away from the office, you can find Duane spending time with his family golfing and helping with his son’s Boy Scout troop. Duane is a member of the State Tax Committee – Montana Society of CPAs. He enjoys making connections and building long lasting relationships with each client.

Shareholder

Danielle moved to Bozeman from Dolores, CO in 2006 to attend Montana State University.   She received both her Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Professional Accountancy from MSU before joining Holmes & Turner in 2012. Danielle became a CPA in 2013 and has already gained a vast experience base.   She prepares income tax returns for individuals, business entities, trusts and estates. She also assists with payroll returns and attest engagements. She appreciates the diversity of public accounting and building relationships with clients.

Outside of work, Danielle enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, Hailey and Madelyn.

Aaron moved to Bozeman from Great Falls in 2008 to attend Montana State University. He received his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from MSU before joining Holmes & Turner in 2015. Aaron prepares income tax returns for individuals and business entities. Aaron enjoys working with a variety of clients and looks forward to expanding his knowledge in public accounting.

Aaron, a native Montanan, enjoys being outdoors, hiking, biking and camping.

Staff Bookkeeper

Originally from Wyoming, Shannon found her home base in Bozeman, Montana in 2000 and has been a valued member of Holmes & Turner since 2006. Shannon has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wyoming and continues to stay up to date through continued professional education classes. Shannon has the experience to provide numerous services to our clients including; bookkeeping, payroll and trust accounting. She enjoys the diversity in her job and values the relationships she has made with members of the Holmes & Turner team.

Outside of work, Shannon spends time with her family enjoying the beautiful Gallatin Valley via hiking, snowshoeing and photography. 

Hannah was born and raised on a dairy farm in Churchill, MT. She studied at Montana State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Accounting. Her future plans are to continue her studies through the MPAc program to work towards her certification.

Hannah joined the Holmes and Turner team in August of 2021.  She has enjoyed the time that she has spent with the company and working to further her knowledge in tax, audit, and other accounting services.  As her knowledge grows she looks forward to working more closely with the Holmes and Turner clients and helping them with their financial needs.

Hannah enjoys spending time with her husband, Ben, her family and their pack of golden retrievers. When she’s not working you can find her crocheting, gardening, attempting new recipes, or binging watching one of her many favorite Netflix shows.

Laura is happy to call Montana her home. She relocated from Chinook to Bozeman to attend Montana State University, where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in economics and accounting. She joined Holmes & Turner in 1999 and became partner in 2009. Laura’s knowledge base and areas of interest have propelled her success.   She is skilled in real estate, construction, consulting and retail, among other areas. She prepares a multitude of business entity and individual tax returns. Laura also undertakes many attest engagements including ERISA audits, compilations and reviews of financial statements. She believes in the power of client relationships and works hard to help guide your success along the way.

Away from the office, Laura enjoys participating in both golf and bowling leagues.   She and her husband also travel the country to support their daughter who is actively involved on a competitive cheer team. Laura is also a sports fan! Football season brings office rivalry, as Laura cheers on the Seattle Seahawks and Montana State Bobcats each week.

Kurtis James Allen received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Brigham Young University and his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from California State Sacramento. Prior to joining Holmes & Turner in Bozeman, Montana, Kurtis was self-employed for three years in Las Vegas, Nevada and was a staff accountant and audit manager at a small Las Vegas CPA firm for thirteen years prior to being self employed. Kurtis specializes in complex tax law and auditing.

As the son of a career Air Force father, Kurtis lived all over the United States growing up. His interests include traveling, hiking, reading, golfing, and photography. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, teenage daughter, and their spoiled rotten Chocolate Lab, Lottay.

Staff Bookkeeper

Kim, a long time Bozeman resident, recently joined the Holmes & Turner team in July of 2014. Kim has spent the last 12 years working as a paralegal and office manager. Her previous experience enables Kim to provide valuable support to our clients and professional staff.

When not at work, Kim likes camping, off-road Jeeping, and spending time with friends and family, including two mini Aussies.

Originally from Kansas, Brian moved to Bozeman to join Holmes & Turner in 2022. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Wichita State University. Brian enjoys furthering his knowledge of accounting services and working to meet the financial needs of our clients.

When not crunching numbers, Brian enjoys listening to and playing music, along with exploring Montana's backcountry.

Laura grew up in the Bozeman area and has been a member of the Holmes & Turner team since 2003. She is a graduate of Montana State University and became a partner in 2009. She values our clients and enjoys working with them on their growth and success. With over ten years of experience, Laura lends her expertise in a variety of areas including income tax return preparation, business and accounting system development, estate and trust planning, accounting and administration and more.

Laura enjoys her time away from work by taking advantage of the beautiful Gallatin Valley. She enjoys hiking and golfing when she can.

Office Manager

Chandra joined the Holmes & Turner team in September of 2011 as the office administrator and has been the heart of the office ever since. She takes care of clients and professional staff alike, making sure things run smoothly from start to finish.

Chandra grew up in the Gallatin Valley and graduated from Belgrade High School before attending Montana State University. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Development and Financial Counseling in 2002.

In her free time, Chandra enjoys gardening, golfing, and camping with family, friends and her dog.

Dan moved to Bozeman in 2019. He has been a CPA since 2001, and has twenty years of experience in various areas, such as multi-tiered partnerships, oil and gas companies, and exempt organizations. He enjoys classical music, renaissance drama, and travel.

Ashlyn joined Holmes and Turner in 2021 and is happy to call herself a native Montana farm girl.  She briefly left the Gallatin Valley to attend Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona where she obtained her Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting and Business Management as well as her Masters in Accounting. While in Phoenix Ashlyn had the opportunity to intern with Clifton, Larson & Allen and Ernst & Young and discovered an interest for Audit and Attest Services.  Ashlyn looks forward to expanding her knowledge in all areas of public accounting while pursuing CPA licensure. 

When not at work or studying for the CPA exams, Ashlyn enjoys spending time with her husband and both of their families. She also enjoys golfing, skiing, reading, and all things crafty.
